Brazilian Butoh dancer, actor, performer, body trainer and theatre director. Bachelor in Theatre at the University of Brasilia in 2003, studied theatre, dance, dance-theatre, dramatic body mime, physical comic, Butoh, circus, martial arts, and vertical dance. Physical trainer of performers specialized in the Brazilian technique Integral Bamboo. Master degree in Communication and Semiotics at Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo in 2016.

 

In 2010 he was considered "the sensation" of the International Festival of Contemporary Scene Theatre by the Brazilian critics. In 2013, he was ranked first in the call for Innovation and Transversalities Art Projects of the Culture Department of Brasilia/Brazil. In 2014, he was awarded 3rd place in the selection of scholarships for masters at the Pontifical University of São Paulo where he studied until 2016. In 2017, he was selected for a scholarship of the Brasilia government to study Butoh Dance with Atsushi Takenouchi at the Jinen Butoh School in Italy and other places in Europe for a year.

Since July 2018, he is based in Vienna developing courses, workshops and performances. With the New Opera of Vienna he was an actor and acrobat/dancer for two plays: Jean and Julie (Aug/18), Angels in America (Oct/19). At Tanz*hotel (2nd district) he is a teacher and director of Butoh performances. At Lalish Theaterlabor (18th district) he realized three different works: The Last Dance (Jul and Dec/19); Jinen Butoh Photo Exhibition, Schneeknospen Butoh performances and Tarot Butoh cards (Jan/20). At Photon Gallery Vienna, he realized a Photo Exhibition and Butoh performance (Fev/20). With his Bamboo Flow – Organic Body Training he has been teaching at Phoenix Circus Arts Center (11th district) since August 2018 and at Aerial Silk Vienna (1st district) since November 2019. Internationally Will Lopes was at the Transmutation Butoh Festival (Italy Oct/18); Jinen Butoh Open Doors, Italy Dec/18; Kulturelle Landpartie Germany Festival (Jun/19); Butoh Clip Festival, Paris - France (SEP/19); Butoh Encounter Conferences, Oslo, (Norway Nov/19). Jes Dans Theater workshops, Antwerp – Belgium (Oct/20). In 2021, due to the pandemic scenario, he gave online workshops connecting artists and students from South America and Europe.

In 2022, with the reopening of theatres in Europe, a new work premiered in Berlin, passing through the cities Dülsserdorf, Hitzacker and Hamburg in 4 different festivals in Germany, in addition to a season at the Volx Teater in Vienna. For the second semester, Will Lopes will debut his first film as an actor and director and his first own festival called: Hybrid Butoh Vienna Art Festival
